Ambassador Mkrtchyan participated in the opening ceremony of Vyno Dienos 2018 wine exhibition

04 May, 2018

On May 4, Tigran Mkrtchyan, Ambassador of Armenia in Lithuania participated in the opening ceremony of Vyno Dienos 2018 wine exhibition as a guest of honour and addressed the guests with opening remarks. Ambassadors accredited to Lithuania, members of Seimas, businesspeople and journalists took part in the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan thanked the organizers for giving him the opportunity to make welcoming address. The Ambassador noted that Armenia is one of the cradles of viticulture, which is provided both by archaeology as well as by the references in the Holy Bible. „According to Genesis, it is in the mountains of Ararat that Noah plants the first vineyard, cultivating wine. Archaeological excavations in their turn affirm that there were traces of winemaking in Armenia more than 6000 years ago. In our days wine industry is having a rebirth in Armenia. The distinguishing features of Armenian wine are determined not only by the presence of that culture in Armenia for centuries, but also by, what the French call, terroir, the environmental factors. In addition the active involvement of diaspora Armenian representatives in the development of winemaking in Armenia is having a significant importance, including in their introduction of international experience in Armenia.“

The Ambassador attracted the attention of the guests to the activities of Gadara company, which is importing Armenian wine and invited them to the Armenian stand. The Ambassador noted that during its 15 years of activities Gadara is now importing more than 100 varieties from Armenia into Lithuania, including Karas, Kataro, Zorah, Voskevaz, Areni, Armenia, Armas and other wines.

The Ambassador underlined: „The word ‚karas‘ in Lithuanian means war. But in Armenian it means a clay pot, where wine is preserved. Tasting the wine of that name and other Armenians wines, I believe feelings of peace, jubilation and positiveness will be injected in you. The producers of Zorah claim that there is a „6000 years of history in every bottle“. So I am inviting all of you to the Armenian stand, as it is preferable to try once instead of talking long about it.“

Afterwards Ambassador Mkrtchyan together with Garnik Kazarian, President of Gadara company, presented the Armenian wine in the Armenian stand.
