01 October, 2019

On October 1, “Armenia-Lithuania: Musical Bridges” concert dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership took place at Vaidila Theater in Vilnius, which was initiated and organized by the Armenian Embassy in Lithuania together with the Lithuanian State Wind Orchestra “Trimitas”.

The event was attended by Arnoldas Pranckevičius, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Lithuania, senior officials of the Lithuanian legislative and executive bodies as well as other state agencies, Ambassadors accredited in Vilnius, representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of the Armenian community and public figures.

In his opening remarks, Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchyan noted that the title of the concert “Armenia-Lithuania - music bridges”, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership, is rather symbolic, as Lithuania, along with the two other Baltic countries, is one of the strongest links between the EU and Armenia.

Speaking on the message of the day, Ambassador Mkrtchyan marked that Armenia’s relations with the EU are grounded on common cultural heritage, sustainable institutions and mutual aspirations for building strong democracies.

Presenting the concert program, Ambassador Mkrtchyan noted that it was the first time that the Armenian national instrument duduk was played alongside wind orchestra and the Lithuanian national instrument birbynė, adding that this innovative approach could become part of wind any orchestra's repertoire.

Introducing musicians, Ambassador Mkrtchyan thanked prominent duduk player Gevorg Dabaghyan, Armenian Opera conductor Harutyun Arzumanyan as well as artistic director of the “Trimitas” Orchestra Antanas Kučinskas and conductor Ugnius Vaiginis for cooperation in making the program.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan also thanked members of the Armenian community of Lithuania Karapet Babayan, Armen Manukian and Rena Saribekian for the assistance to the Armenian Embassy in organizing the event.
