The meeting of Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan with Cardinal Sigitas Tamkevičus

On October 17, Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchan met with Archbishop Emeritus of Kaunas, Cardinal Sigitas Tamkevičus.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Mkrtchyan congratulated Sigitas Tamkevičus on the appointment as cardinal by order of Pope Francis and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.

Expressing gratitude for warm wishes, Cardinal Tamkevičus noted that he had great respect for Armenians, Armenian history and culture and considered it important to deepen cooperation between Armenian and Lithuanian brotherly nations based on common principles and ideas.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented to the interlocutor the main directions of the Armenian Embassy's activity as well as the events organized jointly by the Embassy and the Catholic Church of Lithuania, adding that the Armenian diplomatic mission had always felt the support of the Lithuanian Church in all its initiatives and daily activities.

The parties discussed the challenges facing the Catholic and Apostolic churches as well as the prospects and plans for further cooperation. At the request of Cardinal Tamkevičus, Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the current high level of Armenian-Lithuanian political relations and the main issues and challenges of the Armenian foreign policy.
