On 13 October, an official reception was held in Tallinn to mark the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
The welcoming remarks were delivered by H.E. Mr Ara Margaryan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Lithuania.

In his speech, the Ambassador reflected on Armenia’s 35-year journey as an independent state and the efforts to strengthen Armenian statehood. He noted that Armenia and Estonia have different historical experiences, yet the two nations share a commitment to sovereignty, freedom and the right to determine their own future. On 20 August 1991, Estonia restored its independence, while on 21 September 1991, the people of Armenia voted in a referendum in favour of an independent state.

The Ambassador also addressed the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and prospects for regional connectivity. He highlighted the outcomes of the Washington Summit in August 2025, including the initialling of the peace agreement and the TRIPP project. He noted that TRIPP is a separate regional connectivity project and one of the important components of Armenia’s broader Crossroads of Peace initiative.

Referring to the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on 7 June 2026, the Ambassador stated that Armenia’s political future had been determined through the vote of the citizens of Armenia.

The Ambassador also highlighted the active development of relations between Armenia and Estonia. Important milestones include the visits to Armenia by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna, the opening of Estonia’s resident embassy in Yerevan on 9 April, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Enhanced Partnership between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Estonia’s experience and bilateral cooperation in digital governance, public administration reforms, cybersecurity, education, entrepreneurship and development cooperation were also highlighted.
